I've done many blind tests with people using good quality 128s, 192s and 320s plus a wav all at the same volume on the same good quality sound system. No one has ever yet heard the difference and identified the different files. The people I tested on were professionals in the music industry who thought they absolutely knew the difference. However, if I'd put a record on the would have heard the difference.

Yes it's steeped in that Warhol / velvets era, no doubt Iggy Pop and Bowie will be making an appearance some point.

A decent set up deck which tracks well when used with clean vinyl does not have any surface noise

A BRANDED pointed out earlier in the thread, mastering a tape for transfer to CD can change everything. Many of the early vinyl to CD transfers in the 80s were hideous and many so called re releases of "Remastered" discs were no more than someone who knew what he was doing when EQing the studio master transfer to the digital press master.

The compression in an mp3 is hideous. If you can't hear that then fair enough, and good for you I suppose. But do a comparison and it's clear, even with a CD.

Watched it last night and really enjoyed it.
On the other topic of Vinyl v Digital. I ditched all physical copies of music a while back and am now 100% digital. If I want to re-create that vinyl sound I'll just pop an angry snake and a bowl of Rice Krispies into the room.
Lossless digital is the way forward.

Enjoyed the first episode. Would have liked to experience life back in the 70's like that. Obviously it's through the eyes of a label owner so it's a little more debauched than the life of your average Joe.
Will keep watching and looking forward to Limitless starting tonight
